How to Grow Goji Berry Seeds

AUTHOR: John Green

Goji Berry Seeds

Goji berry seeds are not hard to come by, since these are available in health food stores or through online retailers. You can also ask people you know who have goji plants in their homes for the seeds. Before you can plant these seeds in your own backyard, there are several things that you must prepare.

When planting goji berry seeds, you must consider the soil wherein you will be planting them. While sandy soil is recommended, any other kind of soil will do just as well. Organic fertilizer can also be added to the soil for better results. As much as possible, you should stay away from chemicals and pesticides. Organic fertilizer can be in the form of duck manure, seaweed or cow dung. By using these materials as fertilizer, you come close to adopting the same methodology of growing goji plants as they did thousands of years ago in the Himalayan region and reap the same benefits of the goji berries.

Since the goji plant can easily adapt to different climates, they are fairly easy to grow and do not require any special conditions to thrive. Once the soil is prepared, then you must soak the seeds for a few hours. This ensures that the seed will germinate. You must take extra caution when it comes to planting the seedlings. You can place them in small pots to make sure that each of the seedpods is placed in a separate container. If you are planning to plant them on a lawn, make sure there is enough space between each of the seedpods that are placed in the ground.

You can now bury the seed in the ground a few centimeters in the soil, cover it with dirt and then place some water. It is better to plant the seeds in a cool and dry place, with the ideal temperature being seventy-five degrees Fahrenheit. Within four to six weeks, you will be able to see some results with the growth of your goji plant.

Once you start seeing leaves growing on your goji plant, you can transfer it to a bigger area. The soil should be able to drain the water because if the soil is too wet and sludgy, then this could do damage to your plant and impede its growth.

Goji berry seeds can grow into plants and do not require a green thumb. Some people have even trained the plants to grow as vines and trellises. If you are unsuccessful in your first tries of growing goji plants in your home, then you can also buy seedlings from a reputable supplier and transplant them in your own garden.
