Information on Goji Juice - Does Goji Really Deliver?

AUTHOR: Geoff Willis

Information On Goji Juice

Information on Goji juice has, sadly, been swallowed by the hype that surrounds the commercial products. All sorts of wild claims by hard-sell Goji juice marketers have hurt the reputation of this truly beneficial source of many nutrients.

For instance, marketers hype Goji juice as containing certain compounds that are not even found in the Goji plant! One example is Solavetione, a potent antibacterial and anti-fungal remedy.

Claims that state Goji juice benefits the heart, normalizes blood pressure, and relieves menstrual pains sometimes erroneously point to the presence of Cyperone as the reason for these benefits. The presence of Cyperone is also the reason Goji is said to be used in the treatment of cervical cancer. However, Cyperone has not been proven to be present in Goji!

Information on Goji Juice - The Top 5 Benefits of the Goji

Many patrons of the product (yes, even those not found on the marketing pages of Goji product manufacturer websites) say that they have indeed benefited from Goji juice.

They say they feel less tired, sleep better, and experienced improved vision, while others say it relieves the symptoms of arthritis. Let us examine these reported benefits:

  1. Energy Booster – those that say Goji makes them feel less tired are probably benefiting from the metabolism boosting Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) found in the fruit.
  2. Sleep Promoter – those that found this benefit were probably more energetic during the day and were, thus, better able to drift off to sleep. Also, they probably benefited from the nutrients found in Goji that enhance the circulation, such as Iron, which carries oxygen in the blood. Enhanced sleep may also result from the general well being that comes from the high concentration of antioxidants in Goji, such as Selenium. Just 100 grams of Goji delivers 100% of the recommended daily intake for both Iron (which also boosts energy) and Selenium.
  3. Vision Enhancer – those who take Goji juice for Beta-carotene must know that carrots are better sources. But for other vision enhancing nutrients, particularly Beta-cryptoxanthin and the carotenoid Zeaxanthin, Goji juice beats all other fruits.
  4. Arthritis Reliever – those that say Goji helps eliminate arthritic pains, especially in the mornings, are probably benefiting from the anti-inflammatory polysaccharides found in the berry. Polysaccharides have also been proven to boost the body's immune system. Moreover, polysaccharides may also lower blood pressure levels.
  5. Blood Pressure Normalizer – as for those that erroneously point to Cyperone (NOT present in Goji) as being the reason the berry lowers blood pressure, they should be informed that if indeed this effect is experienced it is due to the high presence of Potassium (aside from polysaccharides) in Goji. Just 400 grams of the berry contains the entire recommended daily dose of Potassium, a mineral found to lower blood pressure.

A final word of advice: You can find the most accurate information on Goji juice in websites that document actual clinical or scientific studies (e.g., university sites and forums) rather than marketing websites that are trying to sell you something.
