Goji berries have a legend that dates back to 800 AD, during the Tang dynasty in China. Some berries were growing on a vine beside a well that was located near a Tibetan Buddhist temple in the Himalayan region. As the days passed, some of the berries would fall into the well. Over time, the monks noticed that those who drank the water from the well lived long lives and always stayed healthy.
Upon this discovery, the word soon spread about the magic of the berries and many travelers ventured into Asia simply to try the fruit that promised good health. Vines were harvested and brought back to their own villages. It was only in the last two years that the berries have been extensively researched and sold everywhere in the United States.
