A recipe for goji berries can come in many variations. The most popular recipes are the goji juice and dried goji berries. This is because of their ease and convenience in preparation, packaging and consumption. As awareness of the benefits of goji berries increase, the demand for goji berries in its different forms is bound to increase as well.

What is a Goji Berry?

The goji berry originates from Inner Mongolia where pesticides were not part of farming activities. The Tanaduk Institute of Botanical Medicine, together with the Tibetan Medicinal Plant Cultivation Program and the Mongolian Goji Farmers Collective, later imported the goji berry.

The goji berry is a variant of the lyceum. It is red berry that tastes somewhat like a raisin and a cranberry, although it is not as tart as the cranberry and not as sweet as the raisin.

Recipe for Goji Berries - Food and Drinks

In the olden days, goji berries were eaten fresh and raw. But to do this now is possible only if you have your own goji tree in your backyard. Goji berries easily oxidize and turn dark upon being touched by the hands. As such, goji berries are harvested by shaking them off the trees and making them fall on mats. They are then placed under the shade to dry.

There is not just one recipe for goji berries. They can be either eaten and added in food preparations or they can be made into a drink. Below are some of the ways in which goji berries can be consumed.

Food. Below are some ways in which you can use dried goji berries to prepare delicious treats.

  • Ice cream
  • Jam
  • Mixed with granola
  • Mixed with pancake or muffin mix

Drinks. Here are some ways to use goji berries if you prefer them in liquid form.

  • Goji juice
  • Tea
  • Soup
  • Tonics
  • Smoothies

Recipe For Goji Berries - Why Goji Berries?

Aside from making your food and drink tastier, it is encouraged that goji berries be regularly consumed due to the many nutritional values that they bring.

Below are some of the benefits of goji berries.

  • Goji berries significantly slow down the aging process. Regular consumptions of goji berries can make it possible for you to reach the ripe old age of 150, while still aging gracefully, devoid of the discomfort and problems that come with old age.
  • Goji berries have also been found to aid in the treatment of cancer.

Goji Berry Side-Effects

One side effect of goji berries is that they conflict with anti-coagulants. If you are under anti-coagulant medication , then you should not eat or drink goji berries.

Another side-effect of goji berries is that having too much of them can make you laugh a lot. It is said that people who eat a considerable amount of them in the morning stay happy the entire day.
