The Goji berry or wolfberries has a long history, known for its powerful healing and prevention qualities. For instance, Tao Hong Jing, a Taoist master wrote as early as 500 AD that the berry is helpful in increasing energy and can be good for physical exercise.
It is believed that two thousand years ago, irrigation canals were built in the area where Inner Mongolia and the Plateau of Tibet meet. The vines that grew in this area received water from the Yellow River and minerals flowed freely and the plant thrived without any harmful pesticides and chemicals. As the vines grew, the berries were handpicked and then dried under the sun.
It is also believed that during 800 AD, some of the vines grew near a famous Buddhist temple located in China. A well had been erected near the wall where the vines often grew and the fruit would often fall inside the well. The people who drank the water from the well and visited the temple frequently were able to enjoy the benefits of the fruit since they were blessed with a favorable complexion. Even those who reached the age of eighty to a hundred did not have white hair and never worried about losing their teeth.
The Goji berry was so revered in Central Asia and in parts of the Himalayan region that a yearly festival that lasts two weeks was put up in its honor. This small plant indeed carries high expectations. Research and development is constantly ongoing to test how effective it is when it comes to the prevention of cancer, the treatment of HIV and the restoration of DNA. This fruit has no known side effects and is safe even for small children and for pets.
Goji Berry – 'Berry' Good for You!
The Goji berry's current benefits are numerous. It is known to strengthen the immune system and provide relief from a series of ailments including migraines, hypertension, sexual dysfunction and insomnia. It can also help those with poor eyesight, high blood sugar levels, menopause symptoms, depression and obesity. Overall, this fruit can help you enjoy a long and happy life.
If you are looking for products such as juice, powder, and wine made from the Goji berry, you can usually find it in most health food and vitamin stores. However, since fresh berries have a short shelf life, they may be harder to find. The best place to find products made from this fruit would be on the Internet. You just need to be prepared to pay for the cost of Goji products since they will not be covered by your health insurance plan and they are usually as expensive as prescription medicine.
